The faculty and staff of the Hemostasis Research Laboratories of the department of Pathology and Pharmacology at the Loyola University Medical Center present this award of recognition to Professor Benito Casu for his lifetime achievements in the sciences of Glycosaminoglycan Research. Professor Casus’s contributions in the area of glycobiology and glycochemistry are unparalleled and have greatly facilitated in the understanding of the pathogenesis of diseases related to carbohydrate dysregulation and their treatment. His work also led to the development of several international collaborative research programs in this area. He has led a group of lead investigators in carbohydrate research who are at the forefront of cutting edge research. His dedication of foster collaborative research and teaching programs and, in particular, the organization of the Annual Symposia on glycosaminoglycans is exemplary. This recognition award is presented to Benito Casu on behalf of the Loyola University Chicago and International Union of Angiology on September 20, 2012 in Como, Italy on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the yearly Glycosaminoglycan Symposium.
