We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher in Chemometrics at the NMR Centre of the G. Ronzoni Institute, Milan, Italy. The opening is temporary with a contract of one year (with the possibility of extension) and is available immediately.
Project: Our studies focus on the quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) of glycosaminoglycan (GAG) polysaccharides, particularly the complex pharmaceutical agents, heparin and low molecular weight heparin, using NMR, IR spectroscopies and mass spectrometric techniques coupled with chemometric and statistical analyses. Our goal is to develop methods that are able to determine the quality of complex drugs, to detect potential contaminants and to predict the potency of drugs on the basis of their structural characteristics. The project will be conducted in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies.
Qualifications: Candidates must hold a university degree in chemistry, bioinformatics, computational biology or related area, equivalent to a European University PhD at the time of recruitment. Applicants should be highly motivated, have very good communication skills with peers and senior colleagues as well as the ability to work in a team. A preferential requirement is the knowledge of statistical analyses using R and data analysis using MATLAB. It is preferable, but not essential, to have experience of database management and protein structure prediction and analysis. Enthusiasm, the ability for good teamwork, and a good command of the English language are also key qualifications.
Please apply to Marco Guerrini (firstname.lastname@example.org) providing: (i) a cover letter summarizing your qualifications and motives for applying, (ii) a curriculum vitae, and (iii) the names and contacts details of two referees.
